Tucker Carlson turned a racist joke about George Floyd into a fiery take on the police killing of Tire Nichols and the Biden administration’s response on Tuesday. (Watch the video below.)
The Fox News anchor accused the White House of exaggerating the crisis. He said now that President Joe Biden is ending public and national health emergency declarations for COVID-19, he will have to address a new emergency: “white racism.”
But, Carlson said, “white racism is getting harder and harder to find. Very few unarmed blacks are killed by white police these days. Where’s George Floyd when you need him?”
Carlson’s dismissive coverage of Floyd, whose killing by a white Minneapolis police officer sparked nationwide protests in 2020, added offense to his dubious claim about race in law enforcement killings. The rate of people of color killed by police remains the highest, and police officers are overwhelmingly white.
Carlson sparked further controversy with his comments about how Democrats view Nichols’ death at the hands of black officers in Memphis.
