Moscow has banned the entry of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, as well as Japanese parliamentarians and media leaders.
Russian authorities have banned 63 Japanese citizens from entering the country. According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the measures are a response to “an unprecedented anti-Russian campaign and unacceptable rhetoric.”
The ministry stressed that Tokyo is taking measures “aimed at destroying good relations with neighbors, damaging Russia’s economy and Russia’s international authorities”.
The restrictions, in particular, include Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Finance Minister Shun’ichi Suzuki, Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi and Justice Minister Yoshihisa Furukawa.
The sanctions also apply to members of both the Japanese parliament and heads of major media outlets.
Recall that Japan has introduced several packages of restrictive measures against Russia in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier, Tokyo for the first time in 19 years recognized South Kuriles as “illegally occupied by Russia.” In response, Moscow announced the accelerated development of the disputed islands.
