The head of state insisted on continuing the regime of silence to lift civilians from the plant’s basements.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video message on the results of the 70th day of the war, released on the night of Thursday, May 5, said that the authorities were doing everything possible to evacuate people from the plant of Azovstal in Mariupol.
“We agree and hope to continue rescuing people from Azovstal, from Mariupol. There are still civilians there. Women, children. To save them, we need to continue the regime of silence. The side of Ukrainian is ready to make sure of this.It takes time to just lift people from the basements, from the underground shelters.Under current conditions, we cannot use special equipment to clean the crushed stone. Everything is done manually. But we believe everything will work, “said the head of state.
The Ukrainian leader noted that he had raised the Mariupol issue in negotiations with UN Secretary -General António Guterres and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
Zelensky also recalled that on May 4, the second phase of the evacuation operation took place from Mariupol, as a result of which 344 people were brought from the city itself and its surroundings to Zaporozhye.
As reported, the Russian occupiers found a traitor among the former workers of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, who showed them secret underground passages under the business territory, and now they are being stormed by enemy.
