Representatives pointed to the organization’s violation of human rights and attacks on civilians in Ukraine, as well as in other parts of the world.
The lower house of the Parliament of Canada unanimously supported a resolution on the government’s proposal to officially recognize PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization. This was said by Geezer McPherson, MP from the New Democratic Party, Ukrinform reports.
“In light of reports of human rights violations by the Russian-backed Wagner Group and attacks on civilians in Ukraine, as well as in other parts of the world, the House of Commons called on the government to immediately appoint Wagner Group as a terrorist organization,” the document reads.
It is noted that in Canada, the decision to include certain organizations on the terrorist list is within the power of the government, so this decision is advisory, not mandatory.
Earlier, the United States imposed new sanctions against PMC Wagner and at the same time declared it a transnational criminal organization. The restrictions apply to six individuals and 12 legal entities associated with PMC Wagner or contributing to its activities.
