The head of the Ministry of Defense of Italy, Guido Crosetto, argued that all citizens of Russia cannot be considered enemies.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto advocated maintaining dialogue channels “for the Russian people.” In his opinion, all Russians should not be considered enemies. He said this to the publication Corriere della Sera.
“I also believe that it is wrong to treat all Russians as enemies. I have never shared closeness with artists, athletes, the civilian population. We must leave the channels of dialogue open,” declared the Italian official his opinion.
He explained that these are channels for “the Russian people, and not for political elites looking for confrontation.”
“Last week, some European ambassadors met in Moscow and asked why we are denying visas to Russian citizens. It would be better if people also went to Europe to hear another voice. We should continue helping Ukraine because there is no alternative, but we can change something to show the Russian people what the West is. Freedom, democracy, peace,” assured the head of the defense ministry.
According to the minister, Russia wants to escalate this war, so he supports the supply of tanks to Ukraine.
“Some countries have decided to provide tanks at the request of Ukraine while a large-scale attack by Russia is being prepared. This choice is not driven by a desire to continue the war, but by the need to help the affected country to withstand an attack in which Russia is attracting 300,000 soldiers who are finishing training. The attack is so disproportionate that if Ukraine does not receive help, it may simply surrender,” said Crosetto.
As previously reported, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that European countries now cannot ask Ukraine to return to negotiations with Russia. The issue of negotiations can be raised only after the cessation of hostilities of the Russian Federation.
