The head of state said that the entry of Russian representatives to the Olympics, which will be held in Paris, is unacceptable.
President Volodymyr Zelensky sent a letter to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron about Russia’s entry into the Olympics, which will be held in Paris in 2024. The head of state said this in an evening video message on Sunday, January 29.
According to Zelensky, the International Olympic Committee’s attempts to return Russian athletes to competitions and the Olympic Games “is an attempt to tell the whole world that fear can be something acceptable.”
“Supposedly, you can close your eyes to what Russia is doing to Kherson, to Kharkov, to Bakhmut and Avdiivka. […] In the first half of the 20th century, many mistakes were made in Europe, which led to terrible tragedies. There was also a big mistake at the Olympics,” the president said.
He emphasized that the Olympic Movement and terrorist states must not collide.
Earlier it was reported that the European Olympic Committees are not against the return of Russians and Belarusians to international tournaments. They expressed their position in an official statement.
It will be recalled that the NOC reported that if the Russians were admitted, Ukraine could boycott the Olympics.
