Russian athletes cannot participate in the Olympics under any flag, the Kyiv official believes.
Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov strongly responded to the intention of the International Olympic Committee to allow Russian athletes to participate in competitions. At the same time, the head of the defense department pointed out that the “favorite sport” of the Russians is the terror of the civilian population of Ukraine.
“The favorite sports in Russia are shooting residential areas, throwing rockets and diving from the cruiser Moskva. They have no place in the civilized world,” Reznikov said.
The Minister of Defense believes that Russian athletes cannot participate in the Olympics under any flag – “they are stained with the blood of Ukrainians.”
The day before, the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, announced his intention to consider the entry of Russian athletes who adhere to the Olympic Charter, that is, “do not support” the war in Ukraine. He also said that the mission of the IOC is to “bring together athletes from all over the world, this is a special symbol of the Olympics.”
Volodymyr Zelensky said that if Russian athletes appear in international competitions, it is only a matter of time before they start to justify the Russian aggression and use symbols of terrorism. He also published a series of photos showing Ukrainian athletes in destroyed gyms and schools, or against the backdrop of stadiums and sports facilities destroyed by the enemy.
It should be noted, according to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutsait, more than 300 sports facilities were affected by the war in Ukraine, the total amount of losses reached a quarter a billion dollars.
