Former President Donald Trump recently announced that if re-elected, he would build an “impenetrable dome” over the United States to “protect our people” from the alleged threat of nuclear attacks and World War III.
“World War III would be a catastrophe like no other,” he said in the video posted on his Truth Social platform on Friday. “That would make the battles of World War I and World War II very small. The best way to ensure that such a conflict never happens is to be prepared with unmatched technology and unmatched force.”
“When I’m commander in chief … I’m going to work with Congress and our great military leaders, not the ones you see on TV, I don’t think of as leaders,” he continued. We will work with them to build a state-of-the-art missile defense shield.”
Trump went on to say that “the world has become much more dangerous” under President Joe Biden and that any talk of the “deadly threat” of nuclear war following the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been brought up by the current administration.
“The word ‘nuclear’ is mentioned all the time,” Trump said. “It’s a word you’re not allowed to use. It was never used during the Trump administration, but now other countries are using that word against us because they have no respect for our leadership.”
Trump added that nuclear and hypersonic missiles could “wipe out entire cities and even countries” if Russian President Vladimir Putin chooses to escalate aggression against Ukraine and its NATO allies – and that building a system similar to Iron Dome is now essential.
“America must have an impenetrable dome to protect our people,” he said. “We worked with Israel to develop that dome … We have unprecedented technology, but our past leaders did not want to use it … Now we have to take it a step further.”
After praising his efforts to “completely” rebuild the U.S. military, the twice-fired former president — whose campaign promise to strengthen the U.S.-Mexico border became a costly failure — said the Space Force would have a “vital role to play”.
“Just as we have rebuilt our military, especially our nuclear capabilities, I will build the shield to defend America against missile attack,” Trump said before adding. “We will have peace through power.”

Since announcing his bid in November, Trump is expected to begin his run for the 2024 White House on Saturday with his first campaign breaks. He is scheduled to be a keynote speaker at events in New Hampshire and South Carolina, two early voting states.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, vice chairman of Putin’s security council, recently wrote in Telegram that “the defeat of a nuclear power in a conventional war can trigger a nuclear war,” according to Reuters. Putin himself echoed this idea in December.
“As for the idea that Russia would not be the first to use such weapons in any case, it means that we could not be the second to use them either – because the possibility of doing so in the event of an attack on our territory would be very limited,” Putin said, according to CNN.
However, the United States is committed to supporting Ukraine in the nearly year-long conflict.
“Putin has no plans, no plans to stop this cruel war,” Biden said in December. “And the United States is committed to ensuring that the brave people of Ukraine can continue to defend their country against Russian aggression for as long as necessary.”
