Presidential elections are taking place in the Czech Republic, and preliminary results indicate that the winner is former General Peter Pavel, who held the highest military position in NATO – was the head of the Military Committee of the Alliance.
By counting 90% of the votes, Peter Pavel won over 57% of the votes, while his competitor received 42.9%. The counting of votes continues. Turnout, according to preliminary data, was about 70%. It is reported by Denik. cz and Czech Radio.
Predictions by STEM and STEM/MARK for CNN Prima News indicate that Pavel will win with 58.01% of the vote.
Citizens of the Czech Republic could vote for two candidates – ex-General Peter and former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
Czech Prime Minister Peter Fiala has already congratulated Pavel on his victory. And he stressed that Babiš was defeated in the elections for the third time and this was the beginning of the end of his political career.
Pavel actively supports Ukraine after the Russian invasion and called on the countries of the world to supply Kyiv with weapons and ammunition. At the same time, Babis argued that peace must be achieved through negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Recall that Czech Prime Minister Peter Fiala visited the defense industry enterprise Excalibur Army, which produces equipment for the ground forces and modernizes older models, including T-72 tanks, DANA self-propelled howitzers, and RM-70 MLRS. One of the tanks that will be sent to Ukraine, he personally signed.
