The creation of a special tribunal for the Russian Federation is one of the three main priorities of Ukraine.
An international tribunal, or what could be its analogue, where Russia could be held accountable for war crimes committed in Ukraine, could begin its work in the summer of 2023. It was announced on Thursday, January 26, by US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, Voice of America reports.
According to him, the United States is working on this issue with the G7 countries and Ukraine – different mechanism models are being considered.
“I would like us to come to the anniversary (of the invasion – ed) – around February, but it may take a few more months. But by the summer I would like this mechanism to appear,” she said.
Recall that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe approved its requirements for the creation of a special tribunal.
The European Parliament by a majority vote adopted a resolution in support of the action to establish an international tribunal to investigate the crimes of the aggressor countries Russia and Belarus, including their top leadership.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on the European Parliament to create a special tribunal for the Russian Federation.
