The United States will continue to support Ukraine’s efforts to implement important anti-corruption reforms.
The resignations, which may be related to charges of corruption in the Ukrainian government, are unrelated to the financial, military and humanitarian aid the United States provides to Kyiv. This was announced on Tuesday, January 24, by Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department, as quoted by The New York Times.
He said the Joe Biden administration was “aware of any abuse of US aid” to Ukraine and noted that US supplies and funds to Ukraine are subject to strict scrutiny.
“We take our responsibility to ensure the proper administration of all forms of US aid that we provide to Ukraine very seriously,” he said.
At the same time, Price acknowledged that the devastation caused by the Russian invasion has complicated efforts to track the weapons, as well as economic and humanitarian aid, that Washington has sent to Kyiv.
“There are challenges associated with the current situation where our partners in Ukraine are at the center of a brutal attack from the Russian Federation. But we take this obligation seriously, and we have the ability to take measures to ensure the such responsibility,” he said.
The State Department spokesman stressed that the US welcomes Zelensky’s “swift and decisive action” and significant efforts to fight corruption and hold officials accountable when they “do not fulfill the duties assigned to them.”
Price added that the United States will continue to support Ukraine’s efforts to implement important anti-corruption reforms.
Recall that Zelensky fired Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, from his post.
Later, information appeared about layoffs in the Ministry of Defense and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
