Protected vehicles that can withstand bullets, landmines and improvised explosive devices will be used to evacuate people.
The UK will send 13 armored vehicles to Ukraine to evacuate civilians from besieged areas in eastern Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday, May 3, by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Reuters reports.
“These vehicles will help protect innocent Ukrainians trying to escape Russia’s shelling and support Ukrainians in doing vital work,” Truss said.
The UK has said it will also use armored vehicles that can withstand ammunition, anti-personnel mines and improvised explosive devices to transport officers to temporary command posts and help workers rebuild railway lines.
The vehicles were donated from the British Foreign Office vehicle in response to a request from the Ukrainian government and will start arriving within a few days.
Recall that today, speaking before the Verkhovna Rada, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised Ukraine Brimstone anti-ship missiles and armored vehicles for the evacuation of civilians.
