China reported nearly 13,000 COVID-19-related deaths in hospitals between January 13 and 19 after a senior health official said the vast majority of the population had already contracted the virus.
China reported a week ago that almost 60,000 people had died from COVID-19 in hospitals until January 12, but since Beijing lifted controls last month, there has been skepticism about the statistics.
