The German military-industrial concern Rheinmetall is ready to transfer 139 Leopard tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as soon as the German government gives permission for this.
This was stated by the speaker of the concern to the German media group RND.
According to him, Rheinmetall is ready to transfer 29 Leopard 2A4 universal combat vehicles intended for a “circular exchange” in April-May.
It will take almost a year to repair another 22 Leopards of the same modification, according to the concern’s spokesman, and they will be handed over at the end of 2023 or early 2024.
Also, Rheinmetall could transfer another 88 old Leopard 1 tanks. Whether they are ready for operation, and if not, when they will be ready, the concern did not specify.
Recall that earlier Warsaw announced its intention to apply to Berlin for consent to the transfer of Polish Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. In the absence of such consent, Poland intends to transfer tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of a “smaller coalition” of Western countries.
