The head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, who was appointed commander of the joint group of troops in Ukraine, probably began by trying to increase discipline.
This is stated in the daily analytical summary of the British Ministry of Defense on January 23.
Ever since Gerasimov took command, his officers have tried to ban non-standard military uniforms, travel in civilian vehicles, the use of mobile phones, and “non-standard haircuts.”
We are talking about a discussion about whether it is possible to wear a beard at the front, which in recent days has been covered by the Russian media (among which Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov took part in it).

These measures, according to British military intelligence, were met with skepticism, and most of all ridicule was related to how soldiers should shave. In particular, war criminal Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Wagner PIK, said that “war is the time of the active and courageous, and not of smooth-cut phones with handed over to the warehouse.”
Russian forces continue to be stalemate, suffering heavy losses, and that General Gerasimov’s attention to minor regulatory issues is likely to confirm the fears of skeptics in Russia about his ability to make a difference on the front, according to British intelligence. He, like Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, is increasingly described as out of touch with reality – focused on the presentation, not the essence of the case.
