Foreign media reported that the Czech Republic and Slovakia are allegedly ready to abandon the Leopard 2 tank in favor of Ukraine. This information is not true.
The Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic denied information about the readiness to transfer to Ukraine the Leopard 2 tanks received from Germany in compensation for the Soviet-style T-72 tanks delivered to Kyiv.
“Foreign media reported that “the Czech Republic and Slovakia are allegedly ready to abandon Leopard 2 tanks in favor of Ukraine.” This information is not true. No one asked or offered the Czech Republic to provide tanks, which, according to a preliminary agreement, it will receive from Germany in return for helping Ukraine,” the statement said.
As noted in the ministry, nothing of that kind was discussed at the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues at the American Ramstein base.
“The assumptions that the Czech Republic will receive American Abrams tanks instead of Leopard tanks are also false,” the Czech Defense Ministry said.
Recall that Ramstein-8 did not approve the transfer of tanks to Ukraine.
It was previously reported that the Czech Republic is preparing to transfer a batch of T-72 tanks to Ukraine, one of which is autographed.
