Russian President Vladimir Putin did not consider his entire “operation” in Ukraine until the end, the German Chancellor said.
The sanctions imposed on Russia for the war against Ukraine will not be lifted until Moscow concludes a peace agreement with Kyiv. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this in an interview with the CDF on Monday, May 2nd.
“Without the signing of a peace agreement with Ukraine, we will not remove (from Russia – ed.) Sanctions,” said Scholz.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a mistake when he hoped to capture Ukraine’s territory, then declare a ceasefire and wait for the lifting of sanctions on the West.
“He (Putin-ed.) Did not think about his whole” operation “in Ukraine until the end. He did not think that Ukraine would fight too much. We will not remove sanctions until he agrees in Ukraine, and he did not achieve it through dictated peace “Scholz added.
The Chancellor assured that Germany would continue to support Ukraine with money, humanitarian aid and arms supplies, “as many other European countries do.”
Earlier on Wednesday, it was learned that EU authorities would soon approve the sixth package of sanctions by amnesty in Russia and Belarus for waging a war against Ukraine. It is hoped that this will describe the mechanism for the imposition of an oil embargo from the Russian Federation.
