A member of the German Bundestag offered to buy a Gepard installation for Ukraine from Qatar. And in Kyiv they are asking for the transfer of old Tornado fighters.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has offered Germany to transfer 93 Tornado fighter jets to Kyiv, which they plan to decommission. This initiative was made on Twitter by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Melnyk.
He said he has a “creative proposal” for the planes, which are planned to replace the F-35 fighter.
“I have a creative proposal for our German friends. The Bundeswehr has 93 Tornado multirole combat aircraft that are about to be retired and will replace the F-35. Although it is an old jet fighter, it is still very powerful. Why not deliver them Tornado to Ukraine, Chancellor?” wrote the diplomat.
Meanwhile, in Germany itself, they are offering to buy Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (ZSU) for Ukraine from Qatar. This proposal was expressed by the member of the German Bundestag, Roderich Kizewetter, in an interview with the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
“The Qatari Gepards are currently not needed there and are in a good job, so I think it is a good idea to buy them back. They have proven themselves in action and have initially been used very effectively against ground targets ,” he says.
The MP also criticized the fact that Germany did not provide enough ammunition to Ukraine.
Earlier, a number of politicians from the ruling coalition in Germany urged to resolve the issue of tanks for Ukraine as soon as possible.
