Alliance countries should help Kyiv with weapons that will bring victory against the aggressor state, NATO Secretary General said.
Deliveries of heavy weapons to Ukraine from Western countries will increase in the near future. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with the newspaper Handelsblatt, published on Sunday, January 15.
“Recent commitments to provide heavy military equipment are important – and I expect more in the near future,” he said.
He made the corresponding statement on the eve of the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine. He is arranging the delivery of weapons to Kyiv, which will take place next week at the Ramstein airbase in Germany.
“We are at a decisive stage of the war,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, it is important that NATO allies give Ukraine “the weapons it needs to win.”
It should be noted that Kyiv has long appealed to its partners for heavier weapons, including tanks. However, Western countries are reluctant to welcome them, citing fears of being drawn into a war or “provoking” Russia.
Stoltenberg said earlier that the group’s next meeting in the Ramstein format will be held next week. The meeting will discuss what specific weapons Ukraine needs, and how allies can provide these weapons.
In addition, the NATO Secretary General noted the need to supply Kyiv with the necessary weapons “even more and even faster.”
