Two of them – Poland and Finland – made it public, three more are waiting for permission from Germany, as a manufacturing country.
Five countries are ready to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine. This was said on Friday, January 13, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba in a video he posted on Instagram.
According to him, in addition to Poland and Finland, three other countries have not publicly agreed to transfer Western Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine if Germany, as a manufacturing country, agrees to it.
Kuleba said that Ukraine “goes half a step away from solving the topic of tanks.”
“The French were the first to do, say, hit this wall from a tank with a light tire … The French were great, they took the first step. Then the Poles … But the Leopard’s promise is the second such step. It has prompted other countries that before they sat quietly and whispered to us that they are ready to give the Leopard, to come out and say: in principle, we are also ready to do this,” said of the minister.
As an example, the Foreign Minister mentioned Finland, where they have already declared their readiness to provide Ukraine with a batch of tanks, albeit a small one, due to the threat from Russia.
“And I know at least three more countries that are ready to do it, but they haven’t talked about it yet, because they want to say it out loud, and are quite sure that the Germans will come out and say: we are for this,” added Kuleba.
He later clarified that together with Poland and Finland “we already have five countries that are ready to transfer (tanks), but are waiting for the solution of the issues with Germany.”
