Russian commanders are trying to use paratroopers deployed from the Kherson region for an offensive in Donbass.
Since the beginning of January 2023, Russia has sent units of the 76th Guards Airborne Division of the Airborne Forces to strengthen the front line in Kremennaya in the Luhansk region, having assessed the vulnerability of this sector. It is stated in analysis UK Ministry of Defence, published on 12 January.
“For the last two days, fierce fighting has been going on both in the area of the city of Soledar in the Donetsk region and on the outskirts of Kremennaya in the Lugansk region,” the intelligence service said.
It was noted that until November 2022, Russia used almost all deployed airborne forces to hold the front line in the Kherson region.
“Currently, commanders who have moved into Donbass and southern Ukraine are likely trying to use airborne forces to a greater extent in line with their intended role as an elite rapid reaction force,” the British military concluded.
It was previously reported that Soledar and Bakhmut are the two hottest points of the front right now.
