During the war, about 200,000 people left Odessa – mostly women and children – but noted that many local residents were returning as the holiday season approached.
The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, said in an interview with LB that about 200 thousand residents have left the city, some are already returning, but authorities warn that the danger has not passed.
Many locals are returning as the holiday season approaches, Trukhanov said.
“Unfortunately, there are such prospects that shelling happens more often. Therefore, it is dangerous to return. Well, you know how-summer, the sea, everyone wants to relax, they miss their city, the environment and go. But we say that it is dangerous to go: think about children, about safety, “he explained in an interview and warned other Ukrainians against traveling to their favorite resort.
In addition, the mayor said there was no usual rest because of the war: the coast and the water area near Odessa were mine. He said that after the sinking of the Russian cruiser Moscow, the threat from the sea had decreased – though it had not completely disappeared. However, now the defenders of the region are actively strengthening land approaches in the region so that the Russians do not get to Odessa from Voznesensk, Nikolaev and Kherson.
Recall that in Odessa, the occupiers were preparing provocations for May 2 – the eighth anniversary of the tragedy that occurred in the formation of trade unions.
