The planned meeting in a telephone conversation was discussed by the defense ministers of the United States and Germany, the press service of the German Defense Ministry reported.
The next meeting of the defense contact group of Ukraine in the Ramstein format will be held on January 20, 2023. According to the press service of the German Ministry of Defense, the planned meeting in a telephone conversation on January 7 was discussed of the head of the ministry, Christine Lambrecht, with the Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin.
“Defense Secretary Lambrecht spoke with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin today during his first international conference call of the new year. In preparation for the upcoming meeting in Ramstein on January 20, 2023, the talks focused on the current military situation in Ukraine and the coordination of additional military support to Ukraine, in particular, armored personnel carriers and Patriot air defense systems.
The ministers discussed a joint German-American initiative to supply Western-style armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
“While the US will provide Bradley armored personnel carriers, Germany will supply up to 40 Marder armored personnel carriers as a donation from industrial stocks or Bundeswehr stocks. Ammunition for the BMP will come from Bundeswehr warehouses. With this we are also supplementing the planned supply of wheeled rose tanks,” said Lambrecht.
Lambrecht also said that Germany will provide Ukraine with spare parts and repair equipment.
“Together with our allies, we once again show that we are united in supporting Ukraine, acting as a single entity and in close coordination. Together we are stronger,” summed up Christine Lambrecht.
Earlier it was reported that Italy will consider the transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine.
Recall that the United States announced a record aid package to Ukraine. This includes additional HIMARS, HUMVEE and MRAP armored vehicles, Sea Sparrow anti-aircraft missiles, M2 Bradley light tanks.
