Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarolain an interview conducted today from Brazil to national radioindicated that his trip to the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva was “at the request of the President” Dina Boluarte to “strengthen trade and economic relations” with said country and thus “diversify bilateral trade”.
In this sense, he pointed out that diplomatic relations are established not “with ideologies”, but with states.
“We hope to resume political, commercial and international relations with this important country. Our relationship is with the states, not with ideologies”, he remarked.
The Prime Minister added that Brazil is “Peru’s main trading partner” and that they have already held “consecutive meetings in a wide variety of areas of economic activity”.
“Our trade with Brazil will be $4.5 billion in 2022. In terms of our exports, the Brazilian market is very important (…) We have an agreement to deepen economic and commercial cooperation, which we are going to reviveespecially in what are the chapters on SMEs, e-commerce,” he explained.
The head of the PCM indicated that perhaps the Peruvian delegation see you tomorrow, monday, with the new President of Brazil and that the meeting will explain the current political situation in the country.
“(There is) a feeling of sympathy and concern for Peru, for the political complications that we had. (We are going to) clarify that this process has been adequately reviewed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (…) We want, as far as possible, to go through the page (…), to open a new stage reconciliationunderstanding, at the international level,” he stressed.
Foreign Minister Gervasi: “Brazil supported the constitutional process in Peru”
For her part, also in an interview with the aforementioned media, Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi noted that, as the government administration Jair Bolsonaro and parish Lula da Silva recognized the succession of the President Dina Boluarte.
“This is a very important sign that one of the most important countries in South America was one of the first. Both the outgoing administration and the new administration backup constitutional process in Peru,” he said.
