General Secretary NATOJens Stoltenberg recommended that Western countries prepare in the long term for the supply of humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. The reason for this request is that the Russian army does not seem to have any intention of abandoning its military campaign.
“It is true that Ukrainian forces have been leading the initiative for months, but Russia has mobilized many additional troops, many of which are now in training,” the Secretary of State told the BBC.
It was on this Sunday that the decree signed by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putinlast August to increase the personnel of the Russian Armed Forces by 137,000 people as a result of the war in Ukraine.
According to the decree published on the Russian portal of legal information, the Armed Forces of this country will have 2,039,758 people, including 1,150,628 military personnel, TASS reports.
For Stoltenberg, this statement indicates that “Russia is ready to continue the war and possibly start a new offensive.”
Given the situation, Stoltenberg believes that the constant sending of military aid to Ukraine is “the only solution to convince Russia that they must sit down at the negotiating table with Ukraine and negotiate in good faith with respect for a sovereign and independent state in Europe.” .
Zelensky is sure of victory
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyassured last Saturday in his year-end report that Ukraine will continue to fight until “victory” in the war against Russia and until the restoration of all territories occupied or annexed Moscow.
“We are fighting and will continue to fight. To make this word a reality: victory,” he said in a speech on December 31, in which he expressed the hope that 2023 will be “the year of restoration (…) of our lands.”
2022 was the year when “Ukraine changed the world,” he said. Zelensky citing Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion.
After Russian bombing of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has intensified in recent months, Zelensky he emphasized “resistance to all threats, bombardments, fragmentation bombs, cruise missiles, darkness and cold.”
The Russian army did not spare the Ukrainians even on the last day of the year and fired missiles at eleven regions of the country, leaving Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and Kharkov, the country’s second largest city, without electricity.
