Bulgaria explains why it is not sending shells to Ukraine

The Ukrainian side requested to hand over the necessary weapons to the Bulgarian authorities.

Sophia could not transfer the shells she needed to Ukraine, because she herself did not have enough of them. This was announced on Wednesday, January 4, by the Minister of Defense of Bulgaria, Dimitar Stoyanov, while saying that his Ukrainian counterpart, Alexei Reznikov, asked him to provide ammunition, writes Nova.

The head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense emphasized that the country does not export weapons and equipment outside the list approved by the parliament.

“We don’t want the current government to be like the previous government, which distributed Bulgarian weapons and left our army without the necessary equipment,” Stoyanov said.

He said that the Ukrainian side requested to provide weapons that were not included in the approved list.

“The Minister of Defense of Ukraine requested something specific, which is not in the contract and for which we do not have and cannot provide. We do not have enough. It is not about the S-300. It is about the ammunition,” Stoyanov said , adding that during the negotiations it was also about armored vehicles.

“What is being given to Ukraine is taking place in accordance with the decision of the National Assembly,” he insisted.

It will be recalled that on December 16, the Bulgarian parliament finally approved an agreement on the supply of arms, military equipment and ammunition to Ukraine. However, the list was not disclosed.

At the same time, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev condemned the parliament for military aid to Ukraine. He expressed regret that, according to the norms of the constitution, he could not veto the decision of the representatives, which allegedly “instigated the war.”
