Aeroflot, a Russian company, says it has purchased ten Boeing 777-300ER long-haul aircraft.
Russia has reportedly bought ten long-haul Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from an Irish leasing company, despite European Union sanctions. The agreement ends on December 30, 2022. This was stated by the press service of Russian Aeroflot.
The company’s statement stated that the planes were “delivered through the company VEB-Leasing”. The term of the finance lease of the ships is 12 years.
“Aeroflot has purchased and acquired ownership of ten long-haul Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which have been under financial leasing from an Irish leasing company since 2013 and 2014,” the statement said.
However, the Russian company did not disclose the amount of the transaction and the name of the seller.
As you know, after the start of a large-scale war by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, Western countries stopped delivering aircraft and spare parts to Russia and obliged their lessors to return the leased liners.
However, on April 8, the EU eased the sanctions and changed the sanctions, according to which lessors have the right to sell aircraft in Russia to Russian airlines.
This proposal gave the governments of European countries the right to allow companies to receive payments from Russian legal entities that received aircraft on a financial lease that ended before February 26.
As previously reported, one of the largest aircraft manufacturing companies in the world – the European Airbus – intends to completely abandon the purchase of titanium in Russia.
