The alpine peak attracts nearly 25,000 climbers annually, causing concern for local authorities.
The mayor of the French city of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Jean-Marc Peilex, intends to sue tourists who have previously spent the night on Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe. On Monday, January 2, BFMTV reports.
We are talking about two travelers who in November 2022 posted a 45-minute video called “Sleep on top of Mont Blanc: 9 days of the expedition” online. In it, the two climbers describe in detail the climb and the mountain camp.
At the same time, Peileks accused the climbers, whom he called hurluberlus (“fools”), of “neglect of the law” and recalled that since 2020 there is a ban on all kinds of camps on Mont Blanc.
“There are documents about the closed status of Mont Blanc, there is a decree on the protection of natural habitats, which prohibits camping,” said the mayor of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains.
It is known that those who violate the ban will be punished in the form of up to one year in prison and a fine of 150 thousand euros.
