Pope Francis offered to board people on a ship flying the Vatican flag, but Putin said he could not guarantee the safety of such a corridor.

Since the beginning of the war, Pope Francis has three times asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to provide a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of the civilian population from Mariupol. The Italian newspaper Il Messaggero writes about it, citing its sources.

According to the publication, Francis offered to take the people out on a ship flying the Vatican flag.

However, Putin replied that he could not guarantee the safety of such a corridor.

It will be recalled that the Marines commander asked the Pope to rescue the residents of Mariupol.
