Shortly after 03:00 on Monday morning, police and emergency services were called to the Grimsta area in western Stockholm where the explosion occurred. In the morning, police spokeswoman Ola Osterling said the apartment building sustained significant damage. In connection with the incident, the police arrested four people suspected of committing various crimes.
A massive police operation is currently underway in the western part of Stockholm. Explosive and forensic experts are examining the scene, and the police have launched a preliminary investigation into the dangerous destruction to society.
On Saturday night, a man in his 20s was shot and killed at the scene.
“According to one of the versions, this is a continuation of the shooting before the New Year. But this is not our only version,” said Ola Osterling.
The police said, as of 06:00, they had not received any reports of physical injuries related to the explosion.
Shortly before 04:30, another explosion occurred in Stockholm – this time in a stairwell in the southern district of Bagarmossen. In the morning, a man was arrested on suspicion of involvement.
“It was a small explosion, no one was physically hurt, but we were running in Bagarmossen and southern Stockholm,” said Ola Osterling.
So, five people were arrested after the night explosions. Police have yet to see a direct connection between the explosions in Bagarmossen and Grimst, but are looking into the possibility.
