The Black Eyed Peas got a surprise on Polish state television when all four wore rainbow bracelets in solidarity with the LGBTQ community during a New Year’s Eve show in Poland.
The group was the host of TVP’s “Anul Nou de Vise” show.
Their banners angered members of the ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, which promotes anti-LGBTQ policies, TMZ reported.
Party member Marcin Warchol called the vane a “shame,” adding: “It’s not a New Year’s Eve of dreams, but a New Year’s Eve of defiance.”
Where’s the love?” replied Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.I.Am.
“Unity, tolerance, understanding, oneness, respect, diversity and inclusion… THIS IS WHAT I LOVE… people are people and we should all practice honor and love for all different types of people on earth and learn from them.” he wrote on Twitter.
During the event, Will.i.am thanked his “super-inspiring” Polish audience for “being so open-hearted and open-minded” and for supporting the Ukrainian people against the Russian invasion.
He then dedicated the song “Where Is the Love?” victims of hate in 2022, including black and Jewish and LGBTQ communities.
“The Jewish community, we love you … people of African descent around the world, we love you,” he said. “The LGBTQ community, we love you,” she said in a video she posted about the show.
After the song, he explained the group’s message of love and tolerance. Check it out below:
