Russian President Vladimir Putin must ensure that he does not achieve his goal of gaining control over Ukraine, Jens Stoltenberg said.
Germany and other NATO countries should continue to supply arms to Ukraine. Because it is the fastest way to the world. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, said this in an interview for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, published the previous day.
“It may be ironic, but military support for Ukraine is the fastest way to peace,” Stoltenberg said.
In his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin must ensure that he does not achieve his goal of gaining control over Ukraine. Then the requirements will arise for a peaceful solution through negotiations that will ensure the survival of Ukraine as an independent democratic state.
Stoltenberg also said that he considers Ukrainian attacks on military installations in Russia to be completely legal: “Every country has the right to defend itself. Ukraine too.”
Asked if he supported giving Ukraine medium-range missiles, Stoltenberg said “there is ongoing dialogue between the allies and Ukraine about specific systems.”
He also noted that NATO allies have previously supplied Ukraine with long-range systems. These include MLRS HIMARS, artillery and drones.
Earlier, the Secretary General of NATO said that Putin had had a year of sad setbacks. The Russian president made two strategic mistakes when he launched a massive invasion of Ukraine.
