The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry remains the only foreign minister of an EU country with whom the head of Ukrainian diplomacy has never spoken since the start of the war.
Hungary has been an exception for Ukraine. It is the only European country that did not support Ukraine after Russia’s massive invasion of our country. This was announced on Thursday, December 29, by Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba in an interview.
Kuleba said that some EU countries used to be skeptical about Ukraine or even “played a pro-Russian game,” but after the start of the invasion, the Russian Federation began to help with weapons and even changed the their law for this.
“Everyone was surprised,” the minister said.
He also emphasized that the only country that has not changed its pro-Russian position is Hungary.
“And this will not change as long as Viktor Orban remains prime minister. Let’s say he chose his own path,” Kuleba said.
He also noted that until February 24, he had a relatively close relationship with his Hungarian colleague Peter Szijjártó.
“I really tried to reset Ukraine’s relations with Hungary, and he also acted in this direction, and on some topics we made progress. But after February 24, he was the only foreign minister of an EU country that did not I’ve ever talked to. I think this fact speaks for itself,” said Kuleba.
Recall that Viktor Orban made another scandalous statement about the war in Ukraine. According to him, the Ukrainian people can fight as long as the United States supports them with weapons and money. Therefore, the issue of peace is said to depend on Washington.
