At the end of the year, the lease of the Assumption and Refectory Cathedrals on the territory of the Lavra will expire. The UOC-MP said they were not warned about this in a timely manner.
Metropolitan Pavel Lebed (UOC-MP), the viceroy of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, wrote an appeal to President Volodymyr Zelensky with a request not to remove the Assumption and Refectory Cathedrals.
The Metropolitan said that on December 26, the director of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra state reserve informed him that on the 31st, the lease of the Assumption and Refectory Cathedrals on the territory of the Lavra expired.
“On January 1, we did not have the right to cross the thresholds of the Refectory and Assumption Cathedrals. No one informed us in writing at least a month in advance, we have long-term lease agreements in our hands, we served every day before the war,” said the Lavra governor.
He urged Zelensky to come to the Lavra to see “with his own eyes how many believers come to worship on a Sunday or a holiday.”
As reported, on December 1, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council was held, which considered the relationship of individual religious circles in Ukraine with Russia. The Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to propose to the Verkhovna Rada to ban the activities of religious organizations affiliated with Russian centers of influence in Ukraine. This is about UOC-MP.
