Washington has pledged to continue to help Taiwan maintain adequate self-defense capabilities.
The White House said the United States is concerned about China’s military activity near Taiwan and considers it “provocative” and “destabilizing”, Reuters reported on Monday, December 26.
Therefore, the administration of US President Joe Biden assured that Washington will continue to help Taipei.
“We will continue to help Taiwan maintain an adequate self-defense capability in accordance with our longstanding commitments and our one China policy,” the White House National Security Council said in a statement.
As you know, China considers Taiwan its territory and has increased pressure on the self-governing island in recent years. Taiwan’s government rejects China’s claims and says it wants peace but will defend itself if attacked.
It can be recalled that last night, 71 Chinese aircraft and seven ships crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the southwestern air defense zone of the island.
And last week, 39 Chinese aircraft entered the island’s southern air defense zone.
