Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova believes that the country may face a demographic catastrophe.
A catastrophic decrease in the birth rate can be observed in 2023. There are risks that by 2030 the population of Ukraine will be reduced to 35 million. This was said by the director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research. MV Ptukha Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova during a presentation to Ukrinform on the topic Resurgence of Ukraine after the war. A look at the Department of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
He assessed the loss of population as a result of the war and the migration processes associated with it as catastrophic.
“I dream that by 2030 we will be 35 million. Unfortunately, this may not be. Because the war continues, we are losing people due to the high number of deaths. Not only the dead, but also those who die due to stress , overload. , poor nutrition, lack of medical care,” he said.
According to him, the low birth rate also affects.
“We still do not fully feel it. But 2023 will be a year of a catastrophic decrease in this indicator. Let’s say, in order to have a simple restoration of generations, a woman has to give birth (on average) in 2.13- 2.15 children in his life “In 2021, we had an indicator of 1.1. In 2022 – even less, but the reduction will not be catastrophic due to children born in the first half of the year. God forbid that in 2023 we stop at 0.8,” he believed Libanov.
It should be noted, according to the survey, the majority of Ukrainians are confident that Ukraine will win the war against Russia and recover all the occupied territories, including Crimea and Donbass.
