China’s ambassador said the war in Ukraine “is becoming a problem for bilateral relations with the EU.”
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has put China “in a very difficult position” because Beijing does not want to “choose between friends.” This was announced on Friday, December 23, by the new Chinese Ambassador to the EU, Fu Cong, in an interview for the South China Morning Post.
“We are experiencing collateral damage from this crisis. Both Russia and Ukraine are good friends, so we do not want to choose between friends. This is the beginning of our position.
This crisis has put us in a very difficult position, from a political point of view,” he said.
At the same time, Fu called the war in Ukraine a “so-called special operation” because “this is what the Russians call the war.”
“On the second day after the start of this operation, an important telephone conversation took place between President Xi of China and President Putin, and in this conversation, President Xi spoke clearly in favor of finding a peaceful solution … 10 months after that, the facts show that China does not provide military assistance to Russia. In fact, our position is quite balanced, you see, and we are ready to participate in any efforts in peace,” he assured.
At the same time, China’s ambassador to the EU said that the United States is allegedly “profiting from this crisis” by selling weapons and making money from the energy crisis in Europe.
Asked if he thought the US did not want to see the end of the war, Fu said, “That is our assessment.”
“We know that there are people who are benefiting from this crisis. They are selling enormous amounts of weapons. And in fact, as far as the effects of this crisis, we know who is benefiting from the energy crisis that countries have experienced European,” he said.
It can be recalled that the Chinese government banned the supply of Loongson processors to the Russian Federation, the technology recognized as strategically important and used in the country’s military-industrial complex.
Earlier, Chinese leader Xi Jinping tasked his government to establish closer economic ties with Russia.
