The Executive Director of the Immunization Division of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Maria Elena Martinez, said that there are still about 3 million people in Peru who have not received a single dose of the vaccine against coronavirus. Given the increase in cases in recent weeks, the official
advised the public and medical staff to complete their doses and thus avoid serious illness.

“Covid-19 not only affects people over 60, but also adults over 50 who have not been vaccinated. About 3 million people have not received any dose against covid-19, and we encourage them to get vaccinated, ”Martinez urged.

On the other hand, the official Minsa noted that today more than 73% of the target population have three doses against SARS-CoV-2. He also said that more than 44,000 girls and boys under the age of 5 from across the country completed their routine vaccinations this weekend alone. In other words, 80% of the target planned until December (56,094) has been achieved.

Masks will not be mandatory

Health Minister Kelly Portalatino assured that the return to masks will not be mandatory, but will be voluntary, especially in enclosed spaces. This, given the inevitability of the fifth wave, which will occur in two weeks of December, according to Minsa herself.

“It is not necessary, there is no return. Each person can only voluntarily use (masks) indoors and without ventilation. I want this to be very clear. The Ministry of Health is applying a COVID contingency plan. 19 in order to be able to evaluate prevention and promotion in 24 regions of the country,” the head of the Health portfolio told the press.

Additional Exclusion Tests

RPP Noticias was able to confirm that in recent days, the lines of people wishing to be tested to rule out COVID-19 have increased in Campo de Mar. Most of them show suspicious coronavirus symptoms such as headache, sore throat or cough.

Health Minister Kelly Portalatino said she expects that in the event of a fifth wave of COVID-19 in the country, the first scenario will be easy and occur in two weeks of December; Meanwhile, the second scenario will already be at a moderate to severe level in March and April next year.
