The State Council confirms that the doctor can be released from the last wishes of the patient

The State Council has decided to honor advance directives or therapeutic indifference. On Tuesday, the Supreme Administrative Court rejected the application of the family of the comatose patient, who had given an advance directive that he wished to be kept alive at all costs, even artificially.

The 44-year-old’s mother and sisters tried to compel the document, a handwritten letter sent to his doctor in 2020, outlining his medical wishes if he could no longer speak. In May last year, he was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in Valenciennes after being hit by a truck he was repairing and fell into a deep coma. After observing for some time, the doctors decided that his condition has no chance to improve.
