A new additional medical report released on August 22 confirms a previous report that Adama Traore’s death in 2016 was caused by “heat stroke“escalated”restrictionthree gendarmes, according to the published document Set free Consulted by AFP on Wednesday, November 9.
Four Belgian experts concluded in January 2021 that the death of this young black man on July 19, 2016 at the barracks in Persan (Val-d’Oise) occurred on this day of a heat wave.heat stroke“which, however, would not be”Most likelyWithout being arrested by the gendarmes, who handcuffed the young man as he struggled while lying on his stomach, he was not fatal. They were not charged within the framework of the long-term judicial investigation.
New hearings
These experts were called again in June 2021 for additional examination after new testimony and medical elements were added to the case. Three of the original four experts, as well as a fourth on August 22, concluded that “new hearings and medical documents drawn up by occupational medicine do not change the conclusions of the previous expert opinion;“.
Among these new hearings is a direct witness who knew Adama Traore since he was a child and helped him escape after his first arrest on July 19, 2016. According to him, “Adama gasped. (…) I’m not used to seeing him out of breath, but it’s true that when I intervened, I was a little surprised to see him tired.“.
“His body seemed unresponsive. (…) For me, he was in an unusual state, he did not speaksaid this witness. For four Belgian experts, this testimony “reinforces the hypothesis put forward by the previous college that hypoxemia caused by heat stroke during exercise developed long before the arrest of Mr. Adama Traore.“.
“There is no direct responsibility of the gendarmes.”
“By the time of the second arrest, hypoxemia was therefore well established and sustained“Especially with sarcoidosis, which is a rare pathology, from which, according to them, Adama Traore suffered.
These elements “even reinforce (their) belief in the pathophysiological mechanisms that led to death“, they add. “There is no direct responsibility of the gendarmes, because the main cause of death is heat stroke during the exercises maintained by sarcoidosis.Rodolphe Bosselut, the lawyer of two of the three gendarmes, explained to me.
For me, Yasin Buzrou, the lawyer of the family of the deceased, “without the forceful arrest of the gendarmes, Adama Traore would not have died. In other words, the gendarmes caused (his) death. Indictment and referral to court are required by law.»
