After several years of congestion due to Covid-19, Paris seems to have finally regained its luster for tourists. In 2019, the City of Light and its inner suburbs welcomed 38 million visitors, according to the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau barometer, making it one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. A record that has not been achieved since the epidemic. However, 2022 may be the year of tourism revival for the French capital.
This is confirmed by the latest figures revealed by the booking platform Booking. Paris is once again at the top of the most searched destinations on its website as the All Saints Day holiday approaches. The best ranking the city has not seen since the summer of 2021. Complete the Top 5: London, Marrakech, Barcelona and Rome. European cities for the most part therefore.
Back to pre-Covid levels?
Paris, autumn place? In any case, the capital offers many opportunities for art lovers. Between visits to major art institutions and bucolic walks (riverboats remain a classic of the genre), the city is full of ruins. Not to mention its surroundings with some great architectural pearls such as the Palace of Versailles or the Vaux-Les Vicomtes. Abundant gastronomy can satisfy even the taste lovers.
Very good points that weigh in the balance. And this is not limited only to autumn. Figures revealed by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau for the month of May 2022 indicate some renewed interest in the Ile-de-France region. In Greater Paris (the capital and the 3 departments of the inner suburbs), tourist attendance could exceed 33 million visitors in 2022, all nationalities combined.
Some obvious signs of this improvement had already been seen during the summer. Some attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre Museum, have restored their queues. If the absence of Asian tourists, especially Chinese tourists, is still to be felt, the return of the remaining foreign travelers seems to have restored the balm in the heart of Parisian tourism.
