The observation is clear: the climatic events of the last three months have had their impact on the French. After being hit by all sorts of summer ailments, from heat waves to fires, droughts and bad weather episodes, several media outlets have published surveys on the impact of those episodes on the French population. In a Yougov survey The HuffPost, It was posted online this Monday, August 29, specifically confirming that almost 9 out of 10 French people make the connection between this summer’s extreme events and global warming.
What’s surprising about this figure is that this finding is unanimous among respondents, despite the age gap. Each age group shows a score above 85% and The HuffPost notes the same impression of party closeness. 91% for Nupes and Renaissance voters, 80% for Republicans and 84% for National Rally supporters.
The BVA survey for Orange and RTL conducted on the Internet on August 25 and 26 also points in this direction. 87% of respondents now say they are aware of the impact of climate change. Only 13% say they are skeptical. 10% of them believe that the events of this summer cannot be attributed to climate change, and 3% question the very existence of global warming.
Heading into the summer, 41% of respondents say they finally want to increase their efforts to combat climate change, while 36% believe they are already doing what they can. 16% believe that this initiative is the responsibility of public authorities, and 7% remain skeptical or even fatalistic, believing that we can no longer act against global warming.
