Unlike many of their European neighbors, most French are not yet experiencing the historic energy crisis the Old Continent is going through. On Wednesday, the price of gas in the European wholesale market set a new record, exceeding 300 euros per megawatt hour. French households have not seen their prices change since last October, thanks to a price freeze imposed by the government. The electricity tariff for the fourth quarter of 2022 has increased by more than 400% since the beginning of the year. Individuals on EDF’s regulated sales tariff (TRV) saw only a 4% increase in their bills; those who subscribed to alternative providers, however, were able to see their ratings jump.
