At least 130 hectares were covered in smoke in a few days. At the foot of Chartreuse, under the worried eyes of the residents of Voreppe (Isère), since August 5, near the gates of Grenoble, a fire has been raging on the steep part of the Alpine massif, at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level. . The fire was sparked by lightning, while the region has been periodically put under heat stress and drought “crisis” since the beginning of the summer. A few kilometers away, on the same day, a fire broke out at the foot of Vercor, in Diua (Drom). Here too, the damage is significant, at least 280 hectares were burned.
If large fires are not completely unprecedented in this area of the entrance to the Alps, in the summer of 2003, one of the peaks of Chartres, Nero, burned on 300 hectares, then this year they are worried about their size. Indeed, according to the forest fire database in France, only two fires in the Alps have affected more than 50 hectares…
