On the one hand, the super-profitable multinational organizations, on the other hand, the meager trade balance. There are really two Frances: the big industrialists navigating the path of globalization, countering the crises with their factories all over the planet, and, moreover, the battalion of SMEs that produce everywhere in the country and struggle to sell beyond our borders.
The publication of a new record half-year trade deficit (€71 billion) does not belie the collapse of our industrial strength and our lack of competitiveness. With or without the energy crisis, our share of exports to Europe has steadily declined over twenty years, while our competitors’ share has appreciated. Expensive to produce and not so high quality “made in France” is the leader in the wing.
However, all is not lost. France has an excellent industrial balance in many areas, and a school that produces many qualified technicians, researchers and engineers. But no recovery…
