This morning on Friday, August 5, a mega-operation was carried out, during which Prosecutor’s Office Specializing in Human Trafficking Crimes (Fistrap) and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) worked together and dismantled an alleged criminal gang that was supposed to be involved in human trafficking.
The relevant authorities arrested eight people who were supposed to compile this criminal organizationwhose name is the “Empire of the South”, which will be composed of Peruvian, Colombian and Venezuelan citizens who will dedicate themselves to the sexual exploitation of foreign and Peruvian women.
prosecution investigates persons detained for crimes of aggravated sexual exploitation and facilitation arising from the situation human trafficking. Both violations of the law are punishable by imprisonment for at least 20 years.
The detainees have been engaged in this illegal activity since 2019, according to superior prosecutor Rocío Gal Galvez, Fistrap’s national coordinator.
Since then, they have already recruited Venezuelan and Colombian women to offer them trips to Lima with false job offers. However, upon reaching the promised place, they were subjugated and sexually exploited.
How was it and who participated in the operation?
Faced with these symptoms, Prosecutor’s office specialized in human trafficking crimes of Lima asked to search 25 buildings located in the areas of Lince, Surquillo, Miraflores, Barranco and Chorrillos that could be used as places of detention and reception.
Of these objects, 13 were used for sexual exploitation.
