President of the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM), Jerry Ramoneannounced today to the press that said research house will convene in the coming days election of two representatives Board of Directors of Sunedu, in accordance with the amendment of the Law on Universities, promulgated Congress 13 July.
This decision was made public despite the fact that it is contrary to the decision of the judiciary instructing Parliament to suspend the said changes.
Will continue
Ramon noted that the judiciary’s decision is part of a “debate” with Congress, but that San Marcos will continue with what the reform of the parliament calls for.
“We are not going to make a decision about why the judiciary did this and violated the law, which is already the sixth time passed by Congress. I think that it does not depend on us, because this is a debate between the judiciary and Congress”, he pointed out.
He also pointed out that only if Constitutional Court (CC) speaks out against the reform, then he will make a decision by the judiciary, but for now they will continue “with due process.”
“I do not reject, what is happening is that there are instances for due process. If at some point the TC decides that this law is invalid, then at that moment we will withdraw what is being done. But until that happens, we must continue due process,” he said.
In addition, he expressed the wish that the law on universities be completely changed.
“The only thing I can say is that there will indeed come a time when all interested, involved, all public universities, students, student representatives and Congress we can discuss a comprehensive amendment this law,” he said.
Finally, the rector said that she did not know which public universities would comply with the law, since another sector of rectors, who make up Association of National Universities of Peru They welcomed the decision of the judiciary regarding the modification of the parliament and argue that this decision should be implemented.
