Students of the National Engineering University (St.UNI), Members of the group Aerospace industry Peruasked for help to be able to travel to France to participate in a prestigious competition C’Space 2022.
In dialogue with RPP NewsMichael Martinez, one of the designers, said that his group was able to develop experimental mini-rocket which they christened “Waira”, which means “Wind” in Quechua.
The project, funded by two workers, will be entered into an aerospace competition. The rocket, 1.20 m long, is made of fiberglass and has built-in sensors to collect atmospheric data.
“This mini-rocket will collect atmospheric data such as pressure, temperature; and this can be reproduced in aid of agriculture. This will be the first launch to be given at an international competition,” Martinez said.
Aerospace industry Peru planned to be presented at C’Space 2022 another rocket, but this one remained unfinished mainly due to lack of funding.

Frahan Justo, another designer, noted that the group consists of 12 people. Aerospace industry Peru, but so far they only have a plane ticket to France; so he made a call to get at least one more.
“We still have a pass thanks to the leadership with the rector and vice-rector for scientific work. However, we are 12 people who make up this team that developed this rocket, ”he commented.
“What we are doing is we are reaching out to private companies, organizations that contribute to the development of technology projects, so that they can support us with at least one more ticket to be able to travel in France”, he added.
