The mayor of Lima is asking the defense minister to have the military integrate police and serenade patrols.

Lima Mayor Rafael López Allaga on Monday asked Defense Minister Jorge Chávez to take legal and operational action for the Armed Forces to join the Peruvian National Police (PNP) patrol and district serenades.

Official Letter No. 57-2023 clarifies that the prevalence of common crimes that plague the capital Lima has “increased exponentially” and that this is reflected in high rates of victimization and increased feelings of insecurity among citizens.

In addition, he recalls that the violence that usually accompanies criminal acts resulted in the death of two members of the municipal police from Santiago de Surco and the constitutional province of Callao.

“In this sense, in connection with the above, I ask you to order the necessary legal and operational actions in order to Armed forces join the patrol National Police of Peru and district serenades to promote preventive, dissuasive and repressive work against crime in metropolitan Lima,” he points out.
