Residents of the human settlement of Brisas del Malecón del Rio Chillon posted on Tuesday protective mesh on the banks of the river, located in the area of Comas, to avoid possible spills.
From the early hours of the morning, residents of the area set up a metal mesh with stones mined at their own expense to try to protect themselves from the force of the current.
A neighbor told RPP Noticias that grid placement work began at 8am. In addition, the father of the family requested equipment to clean up the riverbed.
“Everything is dry above, but we don’t have support from the municipality (commas). I don’t know if the municipality of Lima will be able to support us in cleaning up the river, and maybe it will go directly, and no, it will affect more houses,” he said.
temporary shelter
Mario Casaretto, Risk Management Manager of the Lima Metropolitan Municipality, said they are working to inform the residents of Brisas del Malecón del Rio Chillon so that they can be relocated to a shelter.
“We want people to be aware of the risk they are going through here. We are trying to talk to them in order to be able to have a situation similar to the one in the Alameda del Pinar shelter, where these 30 families did not want at the beginning, but in the end, realizing that the situation would destroy their homes, they were allowed to be transferred to a shelter with bathrooms, education and health to be taken care of,” he said.
In addition, Mario Casaretto specified that the temporary shelter contains tents with five beds inside, bedding, a gas stove, dishes, cleaning products and buckets for water tanks.
